That’s why neighborhoods like Crestwood, Highland Park, Forest Park, Avondale, Homewood, Irondale, Mountain Brook, and Vestavia Hills are full of UAB newcomers. The vibe is ON—walkable streets, cozy restaurants, strong schools, and quick commutes to Southside.

And beyond the workplace, UAB makes it easy to find your people. Whether it’s Ally’s Art Center, the UAB gyms, or the spirited Go Blazers! community, you’ll expand your circle fast. One of my favorites? SALSA—the Spanish & Latino Student Association. They host cultural nights, dance events, and open their arms to everyone. For Hispanic newcomers, it feels like instant family.

And don’t forget football season 🏈—families in green and gold filling the stadium, kids waving Blazer flags, and everyone rooting for the city’s main stars: the UAB Blazers. It’s more than a game; it’s part of the rhythm of life here, another way newcomers quickly feel part of something bigger.
