Driving down Bonita Drive is like passing a movie set: glamorous vistas, Spanish Revival mansions, white stucco walls, and red tile roofs. It's pure Hollywood vibe. But here in Homewood, AL, we have something even more special: our own neighborhood star system.
And today two of my favorites shine with their own light: Melissa and Jim.
🎭 Meet Melissa & Jim Murphy — Hollywood Neighborhood Stars.

They radiate and spread the bohemian, uplifting vibe that makes this neighborhood unique. Creative to the core, Melissa with her soulful paintings and Jim with his poetry that feels like music. They're the kind of neighbors who not only inspire, but also open the doors of their home and their world to you.
Picture yourself at a themed dinner party: Jim reading poetry while Melissa connects you with fascinating people and shows you her newest creations. 🎨📖 A true neighborhood treat!
And don't worry: you'll soon be hearing from many of Melissa and Jim's guests, too, as they'll be stopping by our virtual corner as contributors. 🌟💻
💡 Tip for newcomers: Be proactive in finding and cultivating connections. Accept invitations, dare to invite... because that's where the magic of belonging begins.
☕ Hellos That Feel Like Cuban Coffee
There's nothing warmer than greeting a neighbor who soon becomes a friend. Those casual "hellos" on the sidewalk, the connecting glances, the smiles... they make life feel like a Cuban coffee in the morning. ☕💚
That's why any neighborhood with sidewalks goes straight to the top of my list: it's all about connecting on a human scale.
🌴 Historical Glamour with a Spanish Seal
The Hollywood Historic District is famous for its Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, much of it designed in the 1920s by George P. Turner. White stucco walls, red tile roofs, elegant archways, and Mediterranean details make every stroll feel like a trip back in time. That historic glamour is part of Homewood's distinctive soul.
🍒 But Homewood wins the Oscar above all for: Schools of Excellence
Beyond its beauty and community, Homewood offers true tranquility to families. The Homewood City Schools district is ranked #1 in Alabama, with an A+ rating in academics and teacher quality. And Homewood High School is ranked #3 in the state.
🎨 Inspiring Neighbors
Neighborhoods feel as inviting and alive as their people. That's why supporting one another, like good neighbors, is so important: visit Etsy to see Melissa's latest creations—her art has the same spark and soul as her home. And don't miss the opportunity to order your neighbor Jim's poetry collection, whose words remind us that we have stars, right here, right next to your house.
👉 Hollywood in Homewood is more than a neighborhood: it's a neighborhood star system. Neighbors who open doors, shared art and poetry, sidewalks that generate connection, architecture that inspires, and schools that shine in the state. It's no wonder it's one of the most coveted places to live in Birmingham.
